Course Description:  The sixth grade math course is designed to promote a balanced combination of understanding in mathematical procedures and a solid understanding of mathematical ideas in the goals set forth in the Alabama Course of Study and the Common Core College and Career Readiness State Standards for Mathematics.



Pencils - No pens.

Wide Ruled Filler Paper

Composition Notebook

Internet Access (somewhere) smartphone, friend, relative, library, etc.

Other supplies may be necessary for projects.


Text: Go Math, Common Core Edition, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This textbook is yours to keep. You may make notes in it and solve your problems in it. However, there are no extra copies. It is your responsibility to replace your textbook if you lose it.

Module 1 Ratios and Unit Rates

(August 17-October 2)


Module 2 Arithmetic Operations Including Division of Fraction

(October 5- November 6)

Module 3 Rational Numbers

(November 9-December 18)

3rd Quarter

4th Quarter

 Module 4 Expressions and Equations

(January 5-March 4)


Module 6 Statistics

( March 7- April 22)

Module 5  Area, Surface Area, And Volume Problems

(April 25-May)


Grading Procedures:

Assessments........................................................................... 70% of total grade

Classwork, homework, quizzes, etc……….                       30% of total grade


Ø  Grades will reflect student mastery of course standards and objectives.

Ø  Homework enhances classroom learning through practice of what is taught.

Ø  No extra credit is awarded on an individual basis.


Tests: Assessments or quizzes are administered weekly. This will usually be on Tuesdays and will be announced in advance.


Missed Work: Students who have excused absences must make up work within 3 days. Zeros will be given if the student does not complete the work in a timely fashion. Please note that it is the student’s responsibility to request and/or complete the missed assignment.


Homework: Homework will be given 3-4 days each week. This may include work that must be completed on the internet. Each student needs to have access to a computer with internet. If a student does not have internet access, that student will be required to complete assignments during P.E., break, or after school.


Discipline Procedure: Students are expected to follow all school and classroom rules. Students will be given one (1) warning each day. After that the consequences are cumulative for the week.



A.   Raise your hand if you wish to speak or leave your seat.

B.   Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, your school, and all adults.

C.   Do not disturb others and keep on task.

D.   Turn in all work when expected. (This includes homework)

E.   Follow all school rules.

5.    Office referral
