It is with great honor and pleasure that I write this letter of introduction to you as your newly appointed principal of Escambia County Middle School. I am filled with excitement and humility to add twigs, sticks, and grass to the Eagle’s aery. I sincerely know that I have inherited an outstanding group of faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members who are ready to soar higher in academic and character development.

I have been a dedicated advocate and servant of education for sixteen years. My love for education started in the fourth grade as I enjoyed reading books to kindergarten classes during “D.E.A.R. time- Drop Everything And Read.” I launched my career in education in Hillsborough County School District, where I taught 7th grade reading. While there, I was noted for bringing reading to life by helping children connect their life experiences with the text. I also provided professional development for staff and directed the children’s choir. Later, I moved to Montgomery Public Schools and was recognized as Teacher of the Month, Assistant Principal of the Year (twice), and was known as “the professional development guru.” I collaborated with teachers, administrators, and community partners to help organize academic bootcamps, educational field trips, and co-curricular student activities that promoted school pride and acknowledged student success.

Now, I begin a new chapter of continued advocacy and service with the ECMS Eagles! With your support, I look forward to continuing the work established by such a wonderful group of dedicated administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community partners.

To my amazing students, I cannot wait to see you very soon! We are looking forward to seeing your bright brilliant faces. We are not certain as to “How” and “When,” but I can assure you that we will meet and grow together. In the meantime, say this out loud everyday:

I Can Face It!

I Can Do It!

I Can Master It!

I Will Succeed!

I Can Change My Tomorrow by What I Do Today!!!!

As your principal, it is important to me that everyone- students, faculty, staff, parents, community leaders, business stakeholders, Native Tribal family- feel welcomed. Each of you represent ECMS, and we are soaring high like the EAGLES we are! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.

Warm Regards,

TaKecia Barlow
