Welcome to the ECMPS Band Page!

The Escambia County Middle School bands are composed of three ensembles:
beginning band for 5th graders, an intermediate band for those in the 6th grade
who already have a year of experience, and a more advanced ensemble for students
in the 7th and 8th grades.

The 5th and 6th grade classes meet two and a half periods a week and the 7th and
8th grade band meets for a full period every day.

The purpose of these ensembles is to expose students to the musical culture of
the American band tradition, to grow and enrich each student and their musical
potential, and, ultimately, to prepare students for the high school band
program. In class, it is not only expected that students will have fun but also
that they will work hard. For this reason, the four major goals of the program
include the development of 1) musicianship, 2) self-discipline, 3) student
responsibility, and 4) student effort.

Instruction is given in instrumental performance, musicianship, music theory,
and music history. Winter and spring concerts, among other potential
performances, are given during the year and assistance is given in finding
outside opportunities for musical achievement, such as All State, solo and
ensemble, and various honor bands.
